Environmental & Ecology

We take great care when assessing every development we undertake to ensure that it is compliant not just with local and national environmental requirements and standards but also to consider local issues and conditions and we make every effort to make sure our developments suit the local environment, that we are good neighbours during the construction period and build in as much as we can to ensure that occupiers are as well.

We don’t just look at the environmental standards for the building, we actively seek to protect local habitats and wildlife where it’s necessary and consult with local communities. Rainwater harvesting, increased natural light and insulation are all commonplace with new buildings and we actively look to expand on this whenever possible through considered product specification.

Examples include the construction of a new badger set on site, the provision of a new home for common lizards, screening for wintering birds and the provision of bat and bird boxes on new developments.

We also look carefully at all aspects of design to ensure that we fit in with the setting. This includes carefully designed lighting, delivery hours restrictions, appropriate landscaping schemes, building materials, installation of electric vehicle charging points, awareness of any important views and participation in the consideration contractors scheme with our construction partners.

As a company, we regularly review our internal practices such as re-use and recycle and we check our product and service suppliers’ environmental standards including their social value policies.

Construction is always going to be a disruptive exercise but we work hard to minimise the impact on local communities and to provide high quality sustainable buildings.
